UK FCA Opens Crypto Firm Applications Under New Regulatory Framework
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has begun accepting applications from cryptocurrency firms seeking authorization under its new regulatory framework. This shift marks a move away from a model focused solely on money laundering regulations, towards a more comprehensive authorization system.
The application process opened on September 30, 2026, and existing firms have until February 28, 2027, to submit their applications. The new regime is set to take effect on October 25, 2027, affecting services such as platforms, custody, and staking within the UK.
Firms that apply within the designated window may continue operations while their applications are reviewed. However, prior registration for Money Laundering Regulations does not automatically convert into FCA authorization.
