UK FCA Opens Gateway for Regulated Crypto Firms Ahead of New Regulatory Framework
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened its authorisation gateway for cryptoasset firms, marking a significant step towards full financial regulation. The move allows firms to apply for authorisation or variation of existing permission before the new regime takes effect on 25 October 2027.
Applications are open until 28 February 2027, with firms expected to submit their applications ahead of the deadline. Authorisation is not automatic and will be determined based on whether firms meet the regulator's requirements.
The new framework introduces standards covering consumer protection, safeguarding, market integrity, and financial resilience, bringing crypto businesses under full FCA regulation for the first time.
