UK FCA Publishes Final Guidance on Regulated Crypto Activities
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK has published final guidance on regulated crypto activities, giving firms less than six months to prepare applications before transitional arrangements close. The new regime will cover activities including crypto-asset custody, operating trading platforms, dealing and arranging deals, crypto-asset staking, and the issuance of qualifying stablecoins.
The FCA said the guidance is aimed at both existing crypto firms and traditional financial institutions that may require additional permissions under the new framework. The regulator has encouraged firms to apply as early as possible for authorisation, with an application window opening on September 30, 2026, and a deadline of February 28, 2027.
David Geale, FCA executive director of consumers, payments, and competition, stated: 'We are building a crypto regime that firms, consumers, and international partners can trust. Getting ready for regulation starts with understanding how the regime applies to your business.'
