UK FCA Starts Accepting Crypto Firm Authorisation Applications
Britain's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has started accepting applications for authorisation from cryptocurrency firms. This move comes ahead of a new regulatory framework set to take effect on October 25, 2027.
The FCA will complete reviews of applications submitted by the end of February 2027, ensuring that crypto firms in Britain meet the new standards. The regulations finalized by the FCA include requirements on stablecoin issuance, operating crypto trading platforms, and preventing market abuse.
Existing registered operators are also subject to review, with Emma Reynolds-Davies, chief executive of the Payments Association, warning that a history of registration does not guarantee new authorisation. She emphasized the importance of realistically assessing the standards needed to be met and the level of preparedness required.
