UK FCA Unveils Final Cryptoasset Perimeter Guidance
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published final cryptoasset perimeter guidance, which names five digital-asset activities that will require FCA authorization. The guidance comes as part of a broader regulatory framework for cryptoassets in the UK.
The five regulated activities are: issuing qualifying stablecoins, operating trading platforms, dealing and arranging deals, safeguarding cryptoassets, and arranging staking. These activities fall under the scope of the new regime, which aims to provide clarity on how firms should operate in the UK market.
David Geale, executive director of consumers, payments and competition at the FCA, stated that the regulator is building a crypto regime that firms, consumers, and international partners can trust. He emphasized the importance of understanding how the regulations apply to specific businesses and encouraged firms to seek independent guidance if unsure.
