UK Finance Leaders Predict Tokenization Will Revolutionize Banking
A new survey by Lloyds Banking Group found that 71% of British finance executives believe tokenization will transform the banking sector.
The survey, which gathered insights from 100 executive-level decision-makers representing banks, insurance companies, and investment management firms, revealed that accelerated payment processing and settlement cycles are the primary advantage of tokenization, cited by 60% of respondents.
Lloyds has already begun implementing tokenized deposit trials with Visa, successfully processing $750,000 in USDC settlements. The bank also partnered with Archax and Canton Network to execute the UK's inaugural public blockchain transaction utilizing tokenized deposits to acquire a tokenized UK sovereign bond.
The British government projects that tokenization could contribute up to $44 billion to national GDP by 2035. A task force supported by the government recommended launching the UK's first tokenized sovereign bond by early 2027 and completing a comprehensive end-to-end tokenized repurchase agreement transaction by spring 2027.
