UK FIs Pile into Tokenisation as 71% See Future Transformation
A new survey conducted by Lloyds has found that 71% of UK financial institutions believe tokenisation will reshape the way money and assets move through the system. The survey, which polled 100 senior leaders across banks, insurers, financial sponsors, and asset and wealth managers, revealed a significant increase in optimism towards tokenisation, with nearly three quarters expecting it to transform the future of financial services.
The figure has more than doubled from 41% in 2025, with 64% planning to increase capital expenditure over the next 12 months. Faster payments and settlement were identified as the biggest opportunity from tokenisation, cited by 60% of respondents, followed closely by collateral and liquidity management at 41%.
Lloyds has already begun exploring the potential of tokenisation, with the bank helping to shape the development of digital assets through partnerships with industry leaders. Earlier this year, Lloyds completed the UK's first public blockchain transaction using tokenised deposits to purchase a tokenised gilt, demonstrating how tokenisation can transform the way money and assets move.
