UK Gold Reforms Set to Boost Tokenized Assets and Crypto Narrative
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is set to outline potential reforms for tokenized gold on Monday, which could have significant implications for the crypto market. This move comes as part of a broader regulatory theme that has been driving market trends in recent months.
The growth of tokenized gold assets has been rapid, with issuers such as Kinesis seeing their tokens rise by over 4,600% in less than 180 days. XAUT's market share of the RWA market has also reached a record 11%, according to Token Terminal. This trend reflects the increasing interest in tokenized instruments representing traditional assets beyond just cryptocurrencies.
The UK's potential deregulation of tokenized gold could further accelerate these flows, particularly given its role as a facilitator of over 70% of global gold transactions by volume. Even if only a small amount of this activity moves on-chain, the impact on the tokenization sector could be significant.
This regulatory move may also boost crypto's 'safe-haven' narrative, with Bitcoin outperforming gold despite rising macro risks. The XAU/$BTC ratio is set to post its lowest quarterly performance since 2024, down over 19%, marking the second consecutive quarter of negative returns for the ratio.
