A regional UK police force has seized assets worth over $1.4 million tied to darknet market activity between 2016 and 2019.

The Avon and Somerset Police Financial Investigation Unit recovered 20.21 BTC, other digital assets, and bank funds valued at £1,032,487.86 (approximately $1.57 million) when calculated using current Bitcoin prices.

The police used specialist tracing methods to follow the assets to several darknet marketplaces that have since been closed by law enforcement agencies.

Detective Constable Anthony Davis emphasized that although some believe cryptocurrency provides anonymity, blockchain records retain a permanent record of transactions that can become invaluable sources of evidence in investigations.
