UK Regulators Commit to Tokenization Roadmap Amid Industry Demand for Permanence
The Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have signaled a shift in their approach to tokenized markets. In a recent Feedback Statement, they summarized 123 responses to their May Call for Input, which showed a strong demand for a more permanent regulatory framework.
The respondents included major asset managers like BlackRock and Schroders, as well as banks such as HSBC and Banco Santander. The list also featured blockchain networks and protocols like Hedera, Chainlink, and Ripple, as well as crypto firms Coinbase and Robinhood.
The common thread among the responses was a desire for a more stable and long-term regulatory environment, rather than temporary pilots or sandboxes. The regulators acknowledged this demand and are planning to publish a joint UK tokenization roadmap later in 2026, which will include target dates for each workstream.
