UK Shares SCALP Cruise Missile Blueprints with Ukraine Amid Winter Strike Fears

The UK has authorized defense contractor MBDA to share classified technical blueprints for the SCALP cruise missile with Ukraine, allowing Kyiv to begin assembling and producing the long-range weapon domestically.

This move comes as winter strike season looms, and Ukraine has been relying on foreign-supplied versions of the SCALP, delivered from the UK and France since 2023.

The UK's decision aligns with a similar framework established by France, which has already agreed to help Ukraine establish local assembly lines for missile production through MBDA.

Defense analysts caution that building domestic missile production capability takes years, not months, requiring the sourcing of components, construction or adaptation of manufacturing facilities, and quality control for precision weapons.
