The UK's tax authority has released its first standalone snapshot of declared cryptoasset profits, revealing a highly concentrated picture. In the 2024-25 tax year, 240 individuals reported capital gains exceeding £1 million each from digital assets.

This small group accounted for £717 million, more than half of all crypto gains reported that year, despite representing only about 1.4% of filers.

The figures are part of HMRC's annual Capital Gains Tax statistics, which now include a dedicated section for crypto disposals. This allows officials to isolate and report on cryptocurrency profits separately from other assets.
