The UK is taking steps towards creating permanent financial infrastructure for tokenized markets. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Bank of England have issued a call for input on this direction, which drew 123 submissions from industry players.

Firms are now progressing through the Digital Securities Sandbox, testing tokenized securities across issuance, trading, and settlement under controlled limits. Key players such as HSBC, Euroclear, and London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) are involved in this initiative.

The FCA's framework will also expand settlement assets eligible to be qualified as stablecoins, creating new ways for tokenized markets to function. This includes planned synchronization infrastructure that aims to link tokenized ledgers with existing payment systems by 2028.
