UMI's AI Network Translates Sign Language into Meaning with Bittensor
Universal Motion Intelligence (UMI) has launched an AI network built on Bittensor to help machines understand human movement and translate physical signals into meaning.
The system, called /sign, is designed for real-time two-way communication between Deaf and hearing people. It combines 3D visual capture, skeletal and gesture modeling, facial expression, contextual language understanding, multilingual voice, and live inference to interpret human communication.
/sign addresses a significant need for better communication technologies in healthcare and public services. The World Health Organization estimates that over 1.5 billion people worldwide have some degree of hearing loss, including around 430 million with disabling hearing loss that requires rehabilitation.
UMI's decentralized infrastructure on Bittensor allows independent AI teams to deploy models and compete on measurable performance. This approach is used for a range of motion and physical-intelligence problems, including /face for facial understanding and /intent for body language and human intent.
