The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and World Food Programme (WFP) are set to test the use of regulated stablecoins in aid delivery. Circle Foundation announced grants to both agencies on September 25, 2026, with the aim of speeding up payments and reducing costs.

The UNDP will establish a Digital Asset Innovation Pool to expand the use of stablecoins in development programs. This pool will provide guidance on local rules, day-to-day operations, and safeguards for recipients.

The WFP, through World Food Program USA, will test stablecoin payments across two to three country corridors over the next three years. The grant will cover foundational work, including governance and risk frameworks, treasury and reconciliation infrastructure, and compliance mechanisms.

Circle Foundation's funding comes from an equity commitment by U.S.-listed Circle Internet Group and is managed by Fidelity Charitable.
