Unicoin Takes Uniswap to Court Over UNI Trademark Dispute
Unicoin has filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs in New York federal court over trademark disputes related to their respective 'UNI' and 'UNICOIN' marks. The complaint, which TransparentBusiness Inc. - the company behind Unicoin - lodged in the Southern District of New York, seeks to cancel Uniswap's existing US trademark registration for UNI.
According to the lawsuit, Uniswap had sent three demand letters to Unicoin over a span of roughly two and a half months, accusing it of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting, and unfair competition. These letters demanded that Unicoin stop using its 'UNICOIN' mark and hand over its domain names, as well as submit financial records and cover legal costs.
Unicoin has responded by going to court rather than complying with these demands, listing September 28th as the planned launch date for its UNCN token. The lawsuit also includes a separate request for a declaration that the two domains - Unicoin(dot)com and Unicoin(dot)org - do not violate the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.
