Uniswap Adapts for Regulated Assets with Permissioned Pools
Uniswap has introduced Permissioned Pools, a new standard that allows regulated assets to operate within its protocol while maintaining investor compliance controls. This mechanism integrates eligibility checks directly into liquidity pools and verifies whether the wallet meets the requirements established by the asset issuer before trades or liquidity deposits are executed.
The move addresses a key challenge for tokenized finance: providing access to decentralized market liquidity without removing regulatory obligations attached to traditional securities. Issuers retain control over participant eligibility, while assets can leverage decentralized exchange infrastructure.
Securitize, Superstate, and Dowgo are among the initial partners supporting this launch. As major asset managers continue exploring tokenized financial products, firms like BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and VanEck have already introduced tokenized funds. Citi estimates that tokenized securities could reach a $5.5 trillion market by 2030.
This development reflects a broader evolution in DeFi, where protocols originally designed for permissionless trading are now adding tools to allow institutional participants to use blockchain infrastructure while meeting requirements around oversight, eligibility, and compliance.
