Uniswap Expands into Institutional DeFi with Japan-Focused Gateway
Uniswap is expanding into institutional decentralized finance as the protocol partners with SMBC Nikko and Nethermind to develop a Japan-focused DeFi Gateway. The proposed venue will use Uniswap v4 hooks to build liquidity pools around Japan's regulatory requirements, with completion targeted for mid-2027. This move follows Uniswap's revenue growth, which generated $14.7 million in September, with 53% coming from its Robinhood Chain implementation.
The Japan DeFi Gateway is designed to provide an on-chain trading venue for Japanese investors, supporting stablecoins, real-world assets, and other digital assets. The partners are also working on AI-powered vaults and interfaces to simplify access to on-chain markets. The development is expected to engage with Japanese regulators as the infrastructure is developed.
Uniswap's price remains in a short-term consolidation pattern, with a falling wedge formation identified by analyst Crypto With Gopal. A breakout above the pattern could cause UNI to rally towards a technical objective of $11.50. However, this is a conditional projection that depends on a break above the falling wedge pattern.
