Uniswap Price Stalls After 50% Surge as Regulated Futures Loom
Uniswap's UNI token has had a remarkable week, surging over 50% in just seven days to reach a high of $11 on September 23. However, the price has pulled back to around $9.53 after sellers emerged near the top.
The token's recent rally was largely driven by the announcement from CME Group that it plans to introduce regulated Uniswap futures, which are scheduled to launch on October 19 subject to regulatory review. This move is expected to provide professional and institutional traders with access to regulated UNI futures for gaining exposure or hedging existing positions.
Derivatives positioning has also risen alongside the spot market, with UNI futures open interest near $971 million as the token tested the $11 area. However, higher leverage can support larger price swings in either direction if traders begin closing positions or face liquidations.
