Uniswap Slumps 3% Amid SEC Tokenization Delay
Uniswap's price dropped by 3.03% in just 17 hours due to a combination of regulatory and technical factors. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) delayed its planned 'innovation exemption' for tokenized securities, which led to a significant drop in Uniswap's value. This delay was particularly harsh on Uniswap as it is heavily tied to the tokenization story.
The SEC's decision to cancel an open meeting on new crypto offering rules on August 14 also contributed to the uncertainty around US regulatory policies for digital assets and decentralized finance (DeFi). As a result, investors became cautious, leading to increased liquidations and further price drops.
Uniswap's chart structure was already vulnerable to a sharp decline due to a bearish technical pattern. The head-and-shoulders breakdown completed with the neckline breaking at around $3.90, making it an attractive target for sellers. Technical indicators such as Aroon Down and Chaikin Money Flow were also in oversold territory, indicating a strong sell signal.
