Uniswap Surges on SEC Exemption and DeFi Rally
Uniswap (UNI) experienced a significant price increase of 30% driven by the US SEC's new Innovation Exemption for tokenized US stocks. This exemption allows limited on-chain trading of tokenized US stocks through permissioned AMMs and liquidity pools, with UNI being highlighted as a top beneficiary.
The SEC decision provided a strong catalyst for UNI's price surge, which was further amplified by Uniswap's existing infrastructure and integrations in the tokenization space. The company had already listed tokenized equities earlier this year, with around 2.6 million transactions, 140,000 wallets, and roughly $9.1 billion of cumulative swap volume.
The regulatory catalyst and Uniswap's positioning were further amplified by a broader DeFi rally and a technical breakout. Layer-2 and DeFi tokens led a broad crypto advance, with UNI up around 25% over 24 hours, driving a DeFi index gain of more than 16%. UNI futures open interest surged to around $86.61 million tokens, near record highs.
