Universal Winds Down: November 17 Deadline Looms for UAsset Redemptions
Universal, a cross-chain protocol, has announced its wind-down and will be redeeming certain uAssets by November 17, 2026. The six affected tokens are uSOL, uXRP, uDOGE, uADA, uBTC, and uLTC, which can be redeemed for their respective bridged counterparts on Base. For the roughly 80 other uAssets, holders will receive USDC.
Universal stated that adoption did not reach the necessary scale to make the protocol viable in the long run as its reason for wind-down. The team behind Universal announced this decision on September 18, 2026. During the next 60 days, the uAssets remain backed by their underlying assets and the existing infrastructure stays in operation.
The process of redeeming uAssets is straightforward: holders can sell through the Universal app or redeem directly into the underlying asset held in reserve until November 17. After this date, the protocol will be wound down, and remaining uAssets become redeemable through a smart contract.
