Unrecovered Funds from Tectonic Exploit Total Nearly $9.2 Million
Cronos, a Layer 1 blockchain associated with Crypto.com, has confirmed that about $9.19 million remains unrecovered after an exploit on lending protocol Tectonic. The attack occurred on August 30 and saw an attacker manipulate collateral to borrow $120.4 million before validators halted the network.
Cronos said it had to roll back the chain to restore affected balances, but this meant discarding nearly two hours of chain history, including transactions that were unrelated to the exploit. The rollback restored roughly $111.2 million in impacted value, but about 7.6% of the affected funds remain unrecovered.
The team noted that it is still working with exchanges and other affected platforms to complete the necessary reconciliation on their systems. The post-mortem did not name the attacker or say what will happen to the unrecovered $9.19 million.
