Upbit Halts META Deposits and Withdrawals Ahead of Hard Fork
The South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit will temporarily suspend deposits and withdrawals for Metadium (META) on August 27 due to an upcoming hard fork. The maintenance window is scheduled to start at midnight UTC, but no specific reopening time has been announced.
A hard fork is a protocol change that may create incompatible versions of the blockchain, prompting exchanges to pause token transfers to prevent loss of funds or transaction errors.
For traders, this suspension introduces a temporary liquidity constraint. Trading pairs involving META on Upbit will still operate during the maintenance period, but users cannot transfer tokens to external wallets or other exchanges.
The exchange has confirmed that it will handle the hard fork automatically and that users do not need to take any action to receive new tokens or participate in the upgrade.
