Upbit's Massive Shiba Inu Token Movement Sparks Rebalancing Debate
South Korean exchange Upbit has made significant on-chain movements of Shiba Inu (SHIB) tokens, sparking interest among traders and analysts.
The exchange moved a total of 864 billion SHIB between its internal wallet addresses, with 384 billion moving out of the hot wallet address 0x769 to related platform addresses through four transfers of 96 billion each. Meanwhile, 480 billion SHIB was transferred back into the same hot wallet from Upbit's SHIB wallet.
The total value of the transfer was approximately $4 million, and it occurred after a 36% rally in SHIB prices, which likely made traders more sensitive to large wallet activity.
While the movement may have initially been misinterpreted as an exchange sell-off or selloff, experts note that exchanges regularly rebalance their hot and cold wallets as part of normal operations. In this case, the validated notes support the conclusion that the transfer was indeed a wallet rebalancing rather than an exchange selling pressure.
For SHIB traders, the real signals remain price action, liquidity, exchange order-book depth, broader meme coin demand, and whether additional labeled flows point outside exchange-controlled wallets. This transfer alone is not enough to change the market narrative.
