Uptober Uncertainty: Bitcoin Faces Fed Decision Amid Fragile Momentum
Bitcoin's recent three-month winning streak has traders optimistic about the month of October. Traditionally known as Uptober, October is considered one of Bitcoin's best months. However, this optimism is tempered by last year's experience, when a tariff scare triggered forced liquidations and Bitcoin finished lower.
The current winning streak began in July, with Bitcoin bouncing back from a low of around $58,000 to gain 10% in September, its strongest performance since 2012. The surge in buyer interest has been evident, particularly with spot Bitcoin ETFs seeing inflows of $2.3 billion over four days.
Despite this positive momentum, the recent performance has shown signs of cooling. Over the last 30 days, Bitcoin has gained around 8%, its weakest among major cryptocurrencies. The upcoming Federal Reserve rate decision on October 27-28 is expected to have a bigger impact on market movement than any seasonal trend.
The risk of relying solely on historical patterns is clear, especially with October 2025 serving as a lesson that a strong upward run can still culminate in losses. A close above the benchmark $85,000 could give Uptober supporters something tangible to rally behind, but if the likelihood of a Fed increase climbs above 70%, we may see pressure limit Bitcoin's momentum through the end of the month.
