Uptober's Weak Quarter Exposed
The concept of 'Uptober' suggests that October is a reliably strong month for the crypto market, particularly for Bitcoin. However, after analyzing nine years of data from September 30 to December 31, researchers found that while seven out of nine Octobers were in the black for Bitcoin, only five out of nine quarters ended in the black.
The median return for a full quarter was plus 5.4 percent, which is much lower than the average return of plus 44.7 percent. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering the entire quarter rather than just one month when making investment decisions.
The researchers also looked at Ethereum, Solana, and XRP, finding that while they did not follow the same pattern as Bitcoin, their results were equally mixed. The study's conclusion emphasizes that past performance is not a guarantee of future success and that investors should be cautious when relying on seasonality to inform their decisions.
