US Bank Lands Stablecoin Milestone with Stellar Blockchain Pilot
U.S. Bank has successfully completed a stablecoin pilot for cross-border payments using its proprietary U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, USBDC. The transaction was conducted on the Stellar blockchain and marks one of the first instances of a bank-issued stablecoin being deployed on a public blockchain.
The pilot tested various functions, including minting, payment redemption, freezing, and clawback, and demonstrated the bank's ability to accelerate global cash management and money movement capabilities. According to Gunjan Kedia, chairman and chief executive officer at U.S. Bank, 'This live pilot demonstrates our ability to accelerate global cash management and money movement capabilities.'
The transaction utilized U.S. Bank's internally developed Digital Asset Platform, which serves as infrastructure for issuing, managing, and moving tokenized assets while integrating with traditional banking systems for finance, risk, compliance, and operations.
