US Banks Ditch Bitcoin for Altcoins as Exposure Shifts
Following the significant declines in Bitcoin and altcoins after the 2025 bull run, investors adjusted their portfolios. A recent shift has been observed in the cryptocurrency exposure of US banks.
The latest data from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) reveals a notable change in the cryptocurrency risk portfolios of banks in the Americas. Bitcoin's share among US banks decreased from 75.8% to 44.2%, indicating a significant loss in its weighting within these portfolios.
Ethereum's share has seen an increase, rising to 38.5%. Solana and XRP were also notable crypto assets in the portfolio, with $SOL's share recorded at 7.8% and $XRP's share at 5.6%. The data shows a decrease in Bitcoin's share while the shares of ETH, SOL, and XRP increased significantly.
