US Banks Overwhelmingly Adopt Blockchain Services Amid Regulatory Clarity
A new survey from Uphold and American Banker reveals that three-quarters of US banks are actively developing blockchain services. Conducted between July 27 and August 14, 2026, the poll of 114 decision-makers found that 22% of institutions have live or scaling projects, while 53% are running pilot programs or formal evaluations.
The majority of these financial institutions (75%) have dedicated funding for digital asset infrastructure, with over half (54%) issuing requests for proposals to vendors and partners. Furthermore, 72% have appointed an executive to oversee blockchain strategy.
The survey identified three key use cases driving adoption: digital wallets and custody solutions, buy/sell/hold services within wealth management, and stablecoin infrastructure for institutional settlements. However, respondents cited cybersecurity threats (47%), operational and risk management challenges (47%), and regulatory compliance complexity (46%) as primary concerns.
