US Banks Unite on Nationwide Blockchain Network
A group of 39 US state banking associations has formed the BankChain Alliance to create a nationwide blockchain network for banks. The goal is to launch the network by 2027, with plans to support smart payment tools, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and automated settlement.
The network aims to be interoperable with other blockchains and will invite banks across the US to take ownership of stakes. However, no individual banks have been mentioned as committed to joining, and details on governance and funding remain unclear.
This initiative joins several other bank-led networks announced or in development since 2025, including The Clearing House's onchain money initiative and Cari, a network developed with regional lenders such as Huntington and First Horizon.
