US Banks Unveil Shared Blockchain Network Plan for 2027
US banks are planning to launch a shared blockchain network in 2027 through the BankChain Alliance, which has announced plans for a regulated and secure infrastructure accessible to financial institutions of any size. The network aims to support stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and smart payments.
Kathy Kraninger, interim chair and CEO of the Florida Bankers Association, described the project's intended reach as 'regulated, secure infrastructure accessible to financial institutions of any size,' including small community banks that may not be able to build such a system alone. The planned launch remains dependent on regulatory approval and banks' participation.
The analysis notes that US banks want programmable payments built around deposits rather than outside their own balance sheets. This is seen as a response to competitive pressure, with the BankChain Alliance seeking a technology partner to lead development.
