US Bitcoin Interest Hits Near Five-Year Lows Amid Clarity Act Vote
According to Google Trends, searches for Bitcoin have fallen to near-historic lows in the US. Despite pro-crypto policies from President Trump's administration, interest in Bitcoin has not translated into sustained online search activity.
In early August, Google Trends assigned a popularity of 18 to the term 'bitcoin', which is lower than numbers seen in October and September last year and November 2022. This comes at a time when the crypto ecosystem is expecting a cloture vote for the Clarity Act, an essential piece of crypto regulation, in the US Senate this week.
Notably, Google Trends registers the first week of February as the period when interest in Bitcoin peaked over the past five years, with searches reaching their highest score (100) amidst one of the largest selloffs in Bitcoin history. During that week, BTC prices dropped 30% to near-$60K.
Despite low online interest, a River report shows nearly 50 million Americans own Bitcoin, surpassing gold ownership, which stands at around 28.8 million individuals.
