US College Students Rely on Social Media for Crypto Education Amid Limited Course Offerings

A recent survey by OKX found that US college students want schools to teach crypto and blockchain classes, but when those courses are not available, social media becomes their primary source of education. The study, which polled 500 students and 500 parents, revealed that 90% of students and 87% of parents support teaching crypto and blockchain in college. However, only about 28% of US universities with accredited business schools offer such courses.

The survey also showed that when it comes to learning about crypto, social media influencers play a significant role. Among the surveyed students, 33% identified social media or influencers as their most important source of crypto information, which is nearly five times the number who cited schools, teachers, or professors. In contrast, crypto platforms and apps were the leading source among parents at 21%.

The OKX survey suggests that there is a demand for crypto education in colleges, but it appears to outpace formal coursework. The study's findings have implications for educators and policymakers who may need to consider alternative methods of teaching crypto and blockchain courses due to limited resources or lack of expertise.
