US Crypto Bill Stalls in Senate Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
The US Senate has failed to advance the CLARITY Act, comprehensive legislation aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for digital assets. The bill, backed by former President Donald Trump, was voted on September 15 but fell short of the required 60 votes.
With only 50 votes in favor and 49 against, the measure was defeated by 10 votes. Republican Senator Thom Tillis initially voted in favor but later changed his vote to preserve a procedural path for reconsideration.
The setback has sent shares of crypto-related companies lower and introduced uncertainty into Korea's regulatory debate over its Digital Asset Basic Act. The US bill's failure has also made the timing of a finalized American model uncertain, which could deepen differences between those arguing that Korea should finalize its own framework first and those who favor waiting to see how US deliberations develop.
