US Crypto Ownership Plummets to 11% Among Investors
U.S. cryptocurrency ownership has seen a significant decline from its peak in 2025, according to a recent Gallup survey. The percentage of U.S. investors who own cryptocurrency dropped to 11% from 17%, while overall ownership among U.S. adults slipped to 9% from 14%. This marks the first time since 2018 that investor ownership has fallen below 17%. Younger men, aged 18-49, remain the most likely group to hold cryptocurrency at 24%, but this is down from 33% in 2025.
Upper-income investors report a slightly smaller decline, with ownership at 15%, compared to 19% last year. Lower-income and middle-income investors saw more significant drops, to 4% and 7% respectively. The survey also found that most investors view cryptocurrency as a very risky investment, with 63% calling it 'very risky'.
The decline in ownership follows the recent drop in Bitcoin's value after reaching nearly $100,000 in 2025. Despite this pullback, the results remain higher than previous years, including 2018 when just 2% of investors held cryptocurrency.
