US Crypto Regulation: CLARITY Act Could Unite Industry Amid Global Momentum
Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat, believes that the CLARITY Act is crucial for the development of Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and the broader cryptocurrency space. The act aims to create a single national body, the CFTC, to oversee crypto in the US, replacing the patchwork of conflicting state rules.
This would allow big banks and asset managers, such as Charles Schwab and Franklin Templeton, to build stablecoin systems and integrate real-world assets onto the blockchain without worrying about different state regulations. Lee compares this moment to the creation of the SEC in 1934, which helped establish a clear federal standard for investors.
Crypto is undergoing a significant shift, with money becoming increasingly software-like. Loyalty points, reputation scores, and other digital assets can now function as currency, making it essential to have a single referee, not fifty different state standards.
The clock is ticking, as other countries like Japan, Russia, and Europe are already passing similar regulations. Lee thinks this is part of why crypto markets have been recovering, since the rest of the world is embracing it while the US risks falling behind.
