US Crypto Regulators Face Uncertainty as Leadership Positions Remain Vacant
The US crypto regulatory landscape is facing uncertainty as key leadership positions at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) remain vacant.
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, known for her 'Crypto Mom' nickname, will leave the agency on October 2 after nearly nine years of service. Her departure reduces the SEC to just two commissioners, making it the second time in US history that the agency has operated with such a small panel.
The CFTC is also experiencing thin leadership, having been run by a single commissioner since December 2025. The White House has yet to nominate any candidates to fill the open seats at either agency.
