US Economic Calendar Injects Volatility into Bitcoin Market
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are heading into a potentially eventful week, with several key events on the US economic calendar that could inject fresh volatility into the market.
The week starts off relatively calm on Monday, but Tuesday and Wednesday will see important releases in terms of inflation, labor market data, manufacturing activity, and Federal Reserve appearances.
On Tuesday, the August JOLTS Job Openings Report and September consumer confidence data will be released. The latter is particularly significant, as it will provide a snapshot of how consumers are feeling about the economy ahead of the jobs report on Friday.
The biggest event for the crypto market may come on Wednesday, when the Bureau of Economic Analysis publishes August Personal Income and Outlays, including the PCE price index, which is the Fed's preferred inflation gauge. A higher-than-expected reading could strengthen expectations for another rate hike, while a softer reading could reduce the need for further tightening.
The jobs report on Friday will also be closely watched, as it provides fresh figures on payroll growth, unemployment, and wages. A strong report could give the Fed more room to hike rates, while signs of cooling employment could shift expectations in the opposite direction.
