US Escalates Financial Campaign Against Iran, Targets Crypto Sector
The US Treasury Department has launched 'Operation Economic Outcast' to restrict Iran's financial connections worldwide. This includes widening its power to sanction the country's crypto sector, digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that entities facilitating Iranian money laundering would be 'removed from the US dollar system.'
The move comes as Bitcoin surpassed $80,000 on Tuesday, sparking a debate over whether repeated use of dollar access as a geopolitical weapon could accelerate demand for assets outside the traditional financial system.
