US Government Transfers Seized Bitcoin from Alameda Accounts
The US government has moved some seized Bitcoin from Alameda accounts on Binance and Binance.US, sparking market interest in whether the holdings will be sold. The transfer, detected by blockchain analytics firm Arkham, occurred on August 26.
According to Arkham, the Bitcoin was transferred from a US government wallet, but the destination remains unknown. This move follows a trend of repeated asset transfers related to FTX and Alameda over recent months.
In May, altcoins worth about $1.9 million seized from Alameda were moved to Coinbase Prime. In July, a US government-linked wallet transferred $288 million worth of Bitcoin and Ether seized in multiple criminal cases to Coinbase Prime.
The seized assets could be used to compensate FTX victims, as Judge Lewis Kaplan approved the government using recovered funds for this purpose. However, the timing and method of disposing of large seized assets can affect market supply and demand, keeping attention on related wallet movements.
