US House Committee Advances Bill to Lock up $25B of Bitcoin for 20 Years
The US House Committee on Financial Services has taken a significant step towards passing the American Reserve Modernization Act (ARMA) of 2026, which would require the government to hold all Bitcoin in its possession for at least 20 years.
Currently, the U.S. government controls over $25 billion worth of Bitcoin, and ARMA aims to create a more transparent and secure way to manage these assets.
The bill also orders a study on ways to expand the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve through budget-neutral acquisitions and creates a Digital Asset Stockpile.
While passing ARMA would be significant, it's still unclear whether the bill will make it into law, as Trump's executive order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve was seen as more symbolic than concrete, and can be easily reversed by the next President.
