US House Panel Set to Vote on Crypto Tax Rules That Could Reshape Bitcoin Mining
The US House Ways and Means Committee will vote on two crypto tax bills on September 16. The Tax Clarity for Mining and Staking Act (H.R. 9175) would allow eligible minors and estates to defer income on newly created tokens until the assets are disposed of.
Another bill, the Applying Existing Tax Anti-Abuse Rules to Digital Assets Act (H.R. 9172), would extend wash-sale and constructive-sale rules to digital assets, ending tax-loss trades.
The bills have been met with pushback from Democrats, who have proposed limits on the tax deferral and expressed concerns about treating digital asset income as Puerto Rican-sourced.
