US Institutional Tokens Surge, but Valuations Already Stretched
Three tokens have surged in recent weeks - Quant (QNT), Hedera (HBAR), and Algorand (ALGO) - all of which are classified as US institutional tokens. The catalyst for QNT's surge was The Clearing House's announcement on September 24 that it would select Quant's Overledger technology to power its tokenized deposit network. However, analysts point out that neither TCH nor Quant has explicitly clarified that the QNT token itself is a necessity for this project.
HBAR's rally can be attributed to several catalysts, including IDTrust's partnership with IBM and BlackRock's tokenization initiatives. However, these announcements were made last week, and no corresponding revenue figures or enterprise deployment volumes have been disclosed. In contrast, ALGO's September rally was driven by a combination of post-quantum security upgrades, the appointment of a new CEO, and the SEC's exemption for licensed venues to trade tokenized US securities.
Analysts note that while these tokens have received significant attention, their valuations are already extremely stretched. QNT has surged from $67 to $280 in just one week, with an RSI of 96, indicating a high level of speculation. HBAR remains down approximately 78% from its all-time high of $0.57, highlighting the ambiguity surrounding corporate partnerships and on-chain demand for the token.
