US Oil Sale Could Send Shockwaves Through Bitcoin Markets
The US Department of Energy has opened an exchange for up to 40 million barrels of crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This move is part of a larger 172-million-barrel US release commitment, but no barrels have been awarded under this offer yet.
Proposals are due on October 6 at 11 a.m. Central, with deliveries scheduled for November and December. The Energy Information Administration's September outlook projected Brent crude near $90 a barrel in the second half of 2026 amid falling inventories and constraints on Middle East supply.
The Treasury's September 29 data showed a two-year yield of 4.89% and a 10-year yield of 5.26%. A change in rate expectations after the August report could matter for assets exposed to financing conditions, but it would not mean the DOE notice altered August prices.
