US Politicians Cash In on Meme Coin Schemes Amid Investor Losses
US politicians have been accused of exploiting their own supporters through meme coin scams. The Trump family has been implicated in several scandals, including a $2.3 billion windfall from crypto investments between November 2024 and April 2026, while investors lost around $2.25 billion.
Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, also launched his own meme coin, called Laptop token, which crashed by 99% within an hour of its launch in September 2025.
The Trump family has been accused of hypocrisy for demonizing Hunter Biden's scheme while benefiting from similar scams. Eric Trump tweeted that Hunter should 'go back to painting' after the price of Laptop token collapsed.
Other US politicians, including former New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Argentine President Javier Milei, have also launched their own meme coins with disastrous results.
