US SEC Clears Path for Tokenized Stocks, Fueling Crypto Stock Rally
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a temporary exemption that allows certain platforms to facilitate trading in tokenized stocks. This move creates a regulatory framework for blockchain-based versions of publicly traded securities.
The SEC's five-year exemption applies to approved tokenized securities venues and certain liquidity providers. Under the framework, digital versions of National Market System stocks must provide investors with rights comparable to traditional shares, including voting and dividend benefits.
Several crypto-linked stocks have climbed following this news, with Strategy (MSTR) rising about 7%, MARA Holdings (MARA) gaining roughly 6%, and Coinbase Global (COIN), Galaxy Digital (GLXY), and Circle Internet Group (CRCL) advancing around 6%. Robinhood Markets (HOOD) added about 3%.
