US Seeks $84.2M in Capstone Crypto Assets Amid Tether, Bitfinex Allegations
US prosecutors have filed a civil forfeiture complaint seeking to seize approximately $84.2 million in cash and crypto assets held by Capstone Limited, escalating risks for firms serving the digital-asset industry.
The complaint was filed on July 15 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California and covers $79.1 million from a Wells Fargo Securities account, $1.9 million from a Wells Fargo Bank account, and $2.1 million from a JPMorgan Chase account.
Additionally, the court listed 1.12 million USDT and 54,578.45 USDT seized from two virtual-currency addresses, but did not assign a dollar value to the latter amount.
The total cash balances seized total $83 million, while the court does not provide a value for the USDT.
