US Seizes Crypto Donations Meant for Hamas
The U.S. Department of Justice has announced the seizure of over $500,000 in cryptocurrency donations intended to fund terrorist activities by Hamas.
The funds were raised through recruitment communication platforms and websites used by Hamas's military wing, Al Qassam Brigades.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg stated that the seizures 'deprive Hamas of resources it relies on to recruit and radicalize individuals online and finance barbaric attacks.'
The DOJ obtained information about a group chat associated with Hamas, which directed supporters to a website for fundraising and provided donors with rotating cryptocurrency donation addresses.
On March 25, June 25, and October 10 of last year, investigators seized approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency intended to support the brigades.
