US Senate Blocks Comprehensive Crypto Regulation Bill
The US Senate's attempt to pass a comprehensive bill to regulate cryptocurrency has stalled due to opposition from Democrats. The Clarity Act, revised by Senate Republicans on Sunday, sought to address concerns around ethics provisions for President Donald Trump and his family.
However, the revised version failed to garner any Democratic votes, falling short of the 60-vote threshold required to proceed. With a Republican majority of 53-47, it seems unlikely that the bill will pass this Congress.
Community banks and state attorneys general had expressed concerns about the bill's provisions, contributing to the lack of support from Democrats. The failure to advance the Clarity Act likely marks the end of the crypto industry's legislative campaign for this Congress.
